The Board of Directors for the 7th Street Public Market has named Chris Clouden as Executive Director for the Market, located at 224 E. 7th Street in Uptown Charlotte. He will officially begin his tenure on Monday, March 30. Clouden most recently served as Director of Events with the Charlotte Sports Foundation.
In his most recent role, Clouden was responsible for managing Charlotte Sports Foundation events including the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship and the Belk Bowl. From 2000 to 2006, Clouden served as Chief of Manhattan Recreation for the City of New York Parks and Recreation Department, where he supervised the operation of 14 recreation centers, increased revenue and membership, and implemented health and wellness initiatives across the department.
Since it opened in 2012, the 7th Street Public Market has become a valued destination for visitors and a source of pride for residents. Each small business offers fresh, locally-sourced food with Carolina flavor to thousands of customers each year. Market businesses are often complemented by seasonal vendors who bring in food products and produce directly from nearby farms. The Market offers educational classes, cooking demonstrations, health screenings and special events.
“Chris has managed projects of all sizes, produced events of all scales and has worked with sponsors to deliver great audience experiences,” said Michael J. Smith, President and CEO of Charlotte Center City Partners. “His experience and leadership style will serve the Market well as it continues to develop into a thriving business incubator, local food destination and a center for vitality and wellness in our City.”
Clouden holds a B.A. of Political Science and Public Administration from Fordham University, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree from Northeastern University. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer’s Association of Western NC, the Cam Newton Advisory Council and Right Moves for Youth.
